Through the Years
Culver Glass Company is a family business, started in 1930 by brothers Paul and Howard Culver, who sold paint and loose glass products. When the Great Depression took hold, Howard turned over his share of the company to Paul, who kept customers happy and the business of selling paint and glass thriving. Paul’s son Harold eventually joined the family business and added windshield and side glass to the product line.
The auto glass business quickly expanded to three salesmen traveling the state weekly to take and deliver orders to, eventually, 127 clients. As much of the business came through insurance claims, the insurance companies suggested Culver Glass Company expand to replace broken glass in homes and businesses. With that suggestion, and under the leadership of current owner Terry Barnes who started in 1965, the company phased out auto glass and introduced commercial projects and eventually residential as well.
Through the years, Culver Glass Company expanded its team through a healthy apprenticeship program that kick-started the careers of several of its current employees. That combined with strategic hiring has created a team of glass experts who have completed some of the most visible and challenging glass installations in the state.
